Sending a message in Team Chat is straightforward — but there are a few powerful tools built in to help you get the right person's attention, keep conversations organized, and share visuals with your team.
Sending a Message
Click into the message box at the bottom of any conversation, type your message, and click Send (or press Enter).
@Mentions
To notify a specific person, type @ in the message box. A list of people who can see that conversation will appear — click a name to mention them.
When you mention someone:
- The conversation is marked Unread for them and appears in their sidebar.
- They receive an email notification if their email notifications are turned on.
- In a Channel, only that Channel's members appear in the list.
Typing @team mentions everyone who can see the current conversation at once. Use this when you need the whole group's attention.
Note: Mentioning someone who doesn't have access to a conversation will not grant them access — they simply won't appear in the @mention list.
Threads and Replies
To reply to a specific message without cluttering the main conversation, click Reply under that message. Your reply opens in a thread panel on the right side of the screen. The original message shows "N replies" so anyone in the conversation can find and follow the thread.
Use threads to keep side discussions tidy and the main conversation easy to scan.
Attaching Images
To attach an image to a message, either:
- Click the paperclip button in the message box and select your file, or
- Drag and drop the image directly into the message box.
Both methods work in the main message box and inside a thread reply.
Good to Know
- @team is a quick way to get everyone's attention, but use it thoughtfully — it notifies every person who can see the conversation.
- Mentioning someone doesn't grant them access to a conversation. Access is managed through record permissions and Channel membership.
