Channels let you organize team conversations by topic, project, or role — keeping discussions focused and easy to find. Creating and managing Channels is a Chat Manager responsibility. If you need a Channel created or modified and you're not a Chat Manager, reach out to one on your team.
Creating a Channel
- In the sidebar, find the Channels section and click the + button next to it.
- Enter a name for the Channel.
- Add the team members you want to include.
- Click Create.
The Channel appears in the sidebar for all added members immediately.
Managing a Channel
To rename a Channel or update its membership, open the Channel and click the gear icon. From the manage panel you can:
- Rename the Channel — type a new name and click Save. The panel closes automatically once saved.
- Add members — search for and add teammates to the Channel.
- Remove members — remove teammates who no longer need access.
Archiving a Channel
To hide a Channel from everyone's sidebar without permanently deleting it, use the archive option from the manage panel. Archiving can be undone at any time. See Archiving, Restoring & Deleting Conversations for details.
Deleting a Channel
Deleting permanently removes a Channel and all of its messages for everyone on your team. This cannot be undone.
- Open the Channel and click the gear icon.
- Click Delete channel.
- Read the confirmation warning carefully, then confirm.
If you're unsure, archive the Channel instead — it hides it for everyone but preserves the message history and can be reversed.
Good to Know
- When you save a Channel rename, the manage panel closes automatically — this is expected behavior, not an error.
- New members added to a Channel can see messages sent before they joined.
