If you're sending text messages using FreedomSoft and are registered to send using a Starter Brand, this message is important.
All Starter Brands will need to upgrade to a Standard Brand on or before November 3, 2022 or the mobile carriers will no longer accept your text messages.
If you're already registered as a Standard Brand, there is nothing you need to do.
You can check the status of your brand registration at:
Settings > Phone > Business Registration
WHAT HAPPENS IF I IGNORE THIS?
Starter Brands are being dissolved on November 3, 2022 and on that day, all mobile carriers will remove that registration from their logs. That means, if you don't upgrade your registration, your SMS message will no longer be received by the carriers.
All FreedomSoft phone numbers will continue to work for inbound and outbound phone calls, as well as for inbound text messages.
The only impact to these new mobile carrier requirements are related to your ability to send outbound SMS/text messages.
WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE AN EIN?
To register as a Standard Brand, you will need an EIN (employer identification number). If you don't have one, you will need to set up an entity and file for an EIN with the IRS before November 3.
If you don't intend to set-up an entity and don't intend to get an EIN before November 3, the carriers have informed us that they plan to allow Sole Proprietors to register in the near future, but they have not provided us with the details.
In this case (i.e. you choose not to register as a Standard Brand), you won't be able to send SMS message until they provide a way to register.
THIS SEEMS CRAPPY, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
We agree, the way mobile carriers have been handling SMS/text messaging over the past 2 years is 100% crappy.
Unfortunately, while we don't have control over their poor roll-outs and changes, we are working hard to make sure we continue to provide you with a robust phone system.
